Emergency Croissant Recall in NZ Amid Fears of 'Life-Threatening' Risk from U.S.

An assortment of croissants has been recalled in the US due to an undeclared allergen that could cause a 'potentially fatal' reaction health risk.
Madeline’s Pâtisserie has initiated a recall for a particular batch of their ready-to-eat croissants due to an issue with the labels.
'The ingredient declaration on the outside of the box listed "flour" but did not correctly indicate the presence of "wheat," which is an allergen,' according to the company. announcement published by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday.
The affected items encompass 2.5 and 3.5-ounce chocolate croissants, raspberry croissants, along with croissant buns.

The croissants were produced between March 10 and May 7 and distributed for sale across four sites spanning three states: Superior Food Distributors located in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Carmela Food Distributor based in Fraser, Michigan; Euclid Fish Company situated in Mentor, Ohio; as well as Atlantic Food Distributors found in Canton, Ohio.
'We regret the inconvenience caused and have immediately taken action to rectify the labeling problem so it doesn’t occur again,' said the company statement.
'Protecting the well-being and confidence of our clients is our utmost concern.'
The firm located in Sylvania, Ohio, is requesting distributors to inspect for the croissants and take them off the shelves. Customers are advised to get in touch with the company to obtain replacements that have the accurate labels on the packages.
Madeline’s Pâtisserie initiated the voluntary recall on May 15, and there have been no reports of customers falling ill due to the pastries.

People with wheat allergies may experience ‘a life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis’ which can cause throat tightening or swelling, chest pain or tightness, difficulty breathing, blue skin color, trouble swallowing, fainting and dizziness, according to the Mayo Clinic .
Other wheat allergy symptoms include throat or mouth itchiness or swelling, hives, nasal congestion, headache, cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
It comes just over a week after Utah-based New Grains Gluten Free Bakery recalled more than a dozen of its breads, bagels, cookies and croutons for having unlisted eggs, milk, and soy ingredients.
